A Foundational 28 Hour Yin Yoga Training with Advanced Considerations (with Yoga Alliance credits)

The Way of the Waters is a foundational yin yoga teacher training for 200-hour yoga teachers and experienced practitioners who wish to deepen their understanding of yin as a contemplative, somatic, and relational practice. This training offers advanced considerations in trauma-responsiveness, attention, fascia, water physiology, and subtle-body awareness—while remaining grounded, accessible, and experiential.

Rather than approaching yin as a technique to be applied, this training invites teachers into a different orientation: tending the field instead of teaching, listening rather than directing, and cultivating the conditions in which healing and insight naturally arise.

At the heart of this training is a theory of change rooted in the waters—the body’s internal waters, the ground substance of fascia, the flow of attention, and the alchemical processes that unfold through time, stillness, and presence. Yin is explored not as passive holding, but as an intelligent dialogue with the body’s innate wisdom.

A Practice of Attention, Water, and Alchemy

The Way of the Waters unfolds over two weekends, moving through the yin–yang continuum of attention:

  • Yang attention: learning to hold attention steady, discern agenda, and recognize effort

  • Yin attention: welcoming what attention holds with clarity, compassion, and non-preference

  • Integrated attention: tending the internal field with skill, humility, and care

Through meditation, inquiry, yin practice, working with water as a collaborator, and teaching practicum, students learn how attention itself becomes the primary instrument of healing.

Alchemy is presented not as metaphor, but as lived process—how sensation, emotion, memory, and awareness transform when met with time, space, and non-interference.

What You Will Explore

This training weaves together methodology, philosophy, and embodied teaching practice. Students will explore:

  • What yin yoga is—and what it is not

  • Yin and yang as qualities of attention rather than effort

  • The historical and philosophical roots of yin within Daoist thought

  • Fascia and ground substance as a primary medium of yin practice

  • The stages and phases of water as a lens for healing and change

  • Kidney/water, liver/wood, spleen/earth, heart/fire, and lung/metal through embodied practice

  • Meridians and Five Element theory held within a broader somatic and relational context

  • Photonic light, EZ water, and the Ka-body as subtle dimensions of experience

  • The Four Foundations of Mindfulness and four-beat awareness as lived practice

  • Trauma, nervous system response, and the creation of a trauma-responsive practice environment

  • Attention, preference, and how unconscious agenda shapes experience

Rather than memorizing concepts, students learn to sense, notice, and track these principles through their own bodies and teaching.

Tending the Field: The Art of Teaching Yin

A central teaching of this training is the shift from “delivering content” to holding a field.

Students will learn how to:

  • Create and sustain a clear, regulated class container

  • Use language as invitation rather than instruction

  • Sequence from intention, attention, and elemental logic

  • Offer modifications and options with sensitivity and precision

  • Work skillfully with pregnancy, hypermobility, injury, and heightened sensitivity

  • Respond to disclosure with care, recognizing yoga teachers as frequent first points of contact

  • Support wellbeing and resilience through pacing, tone, and presence

Teaching practicums throughout the training support students in offering short yin sequences with clear tenets, benefits, and messaging—always in service of the student’s internal experience rather than performance.

Who This Training Is For

This training is ideal for:

  • 200-hour yoga teachers seeking a strong foundation in yin with advanced depth

  • Teachers interested in trauma-responsiveness, mindfulness, and somatic healing

  • Practitioners drawn to water-based, fascia-informed, and contemplative approaches

  • Teachers who wish to move beyond scripts and into relational, responsive teaching

Sacred Circle

Sacred Circle

A simple and ancient form: humans sitting together in presence.
We gather to speak what is real and to listen without interruption.
To witness without attempting to fix, offer advice, or repair.
To notice what we feel in the body when someone else is speaking, increasing our own capacity for being with self and other.
In shared presence, the nervous system softens.  In shared attention, clarity returns.
When one nervous system settles, relational space shifts, and community can stabilize what feels unsteady alone.

Come as you are.
Share or remain quiet — both are welcome.

The Regeneration: A Winter Yin & Breathwork Practice for Rest, Hydration, and Renewal

Winter is not a season of stagnation. It is a season of regeneration. Beneath the surface, the body repairs, rehydrates, and quietly reorganizes itself. This workshop is an invitation to enter that process consciously — without force, fixing, or striving. The Regeneration weaves long-held Yin Yoga and gentle, circulatory breathwork to support the body’s natural capacity for renewal and somatic inquiry during breath holds. Through slow, receptive shapes, we soften the fascia and invite hydration into tissues that have been holding too much for too long. Through breath, we support circulation, oxygenation, and subtle ignition — not to activate, but to restore. This is winter medicine. This practice supports: Deep rest and nervous system repair Hydration and fascial renewal Gentle circulation and vitality Emotional settling and mood support Immune resilience and seasonal balance There is nothing to achieve here. Nothing to become. Only the quiet intelligence of the body, allowed to do what it already knows how to do. Come as you are. Leave restored. This practice is designed to be accessible and supportive; participants are invited to honor their own health needs when choosing how to engage with breathwork, and are welcome to reach out to Emily with any questions ahead of time.

Fire Horse: A Ceremonial Retreat with Horses

Fire Horse: A Ceremonial Retreat with Horses

Fire Horse:  A ceremonial immersion with horses, fire, and embodied sovereignty

(Feb 13-16) In Westport MA and Warren RI

The Fire Horse Retreat is an intimate ceremonial immersion held in collaboration with horses and the elemental medicine of fire.

This gathering is rooted in attunement—
to the nervous system,
to instinct and intuition,
to the wisdom of the horse as teacher and mirror,
and to fire as a force of clarity, vitality, and truth.

In the year of the Fire Horse, we come together not to push forward, but to stand more fully inside our own power—learning how to carry energy cleanly, responsibly, and with heart.

Through ceremony and ritual, breathwork, shamanic instruction and practice, as well as time in the presence of horses, participants are invited into a deeper listening—one that happens through the body, the breath, and the relational field.

Horses are exquisitely sensitive beings.
They respond not to performance or intention, but to stance.
They feel coherence.
They reflect incongruence.
They invite honesty without words.

The horses are not here to perform or to be ridden. They are here as teachers- mirrors of coherence, authenticity and presence. No prior experience with horses is required. Only a willingness to be in presence.

Through guided horse-human attunement, ceremony, movement practices, breath, and ritual with fire, we will explore what it means to meet life from inside our own sovereignty—regulated, embodied, and alive.

This is a weekend for those standing at a threshold—ready to move, but unwilling to abandon depth. For those who value personal growth that translates into the community/herd.

Essence of the Retreat

This weekend is a rite of passage—a closing of the Year of the Snake and an initiation into the Year of the Fire Horse.

Snake teaches us shedding, deep listening, and inner alchemy. Growing from the inside out. Venom/pain is medicine and possibility.  Horse carries us forward—into movement, truth, sovereignty, and heart-led action we carry into our herd.  Outward growth ready to be shared with others. They also remind us of our unbridled wildness and play as well as gentleness and softness.

This is not a performance space.
It is a listening space.

We will move slowly.
We will work at the level of sensation and presence.
We will allow the horses to lead where words cannot.

The Fire Horse Retreat is an invitation to remember how to stand—
steady, responsive, and true—
and to let that stance shape the path forward.

The retreat/initiation/ignition weaves together:

  • Ceremony

  • Breathwork

  • Meditation & movement

  • Somatic & energetic initiation

  • Time in the presence of horses as teachers and mirrors

  • Shamanic instruction and practice

Not performance.
Presence.. Listening. Connection. Communion.

Horse Sessions

  • Multiple short, spacious engagements rather than one long session

  • Emphasis on observation as much as interaction

  • Reflection woven in gently

  • No riding

  • All interactions with horses are ground-based, consensual, and guided with respect for the animals and the land.

  • WE WILL NEED TO DRESS FOR THE WEATHER AND THE SITE IS RUSTIC- reach out for questions

This retreat IS for you if:

You would like to reconnect with instinct and embodied intuition

  • Explore leadership and power without domination or force

  • Heal patterns around control, collapse, or self-abandonment

  • Experience fire not as burnout, but as clear, animating life force

  • Learn directly from horses as relational, energetic teachers

This retreat is NOT for you if:

  • You are a spectator, this retreat is participatory, but gentle

  • You want a quick fix or a recipe

  • You want riding lessons, we will not ride the horses

What Makes This Unique

  • Horses are not a backdrop—they are co-facilitators

  • Breathwork is micro-dose and regulating, not cathartic overwhelm

  • Ceremony is woven throughout rather than confined to a single moment

  • Focus on initiation, not self-improvement

  • No alcohol and no smoking at barn or on land

Total Retreat Investment: $1,133 USD/$1,500 single room accommodation

This includes a retreat investment covering shared room lodging in Air B&B (beachfront), nourishing meals (three breakfasts, one lunch, and three dinners (one lunch in town not included), ceremony, instruction and facilitation, and materials, plus a horse stewardship contribution to the barn in support of the care, time, and presence of the horses and land.

About the Facilitators

This retreat is guided by River Star (Emily Peterson) and Jessica Dawe, two shamanic practitioners and ceremonial guides trained in the Way of the Heart Shamanism, each walking the path as Mistresses of the Craft. Together, they hold a shared devotion to healing through embodied presence, relational integrity, and deep listening with the seen and unseen worlds.

Both facilitators work with ancient shamanic practices, conscious breath, meditation, energy healing, and ceremony to support remembrance, restoration, and return to wholeness. Their approaches are trauma-aware, consent-based, and grounded in respect for the nervous system, the land, and the beings who co-create the field.

As a medicine carrier walking the priestess path, RiverStar (Emily Peterson) tends healing as a living field through embodied presence, ceremony, and relational listening. Rooted in ancient shamanic and oracle lineages, her work unfolds through journeying, soul retrieval, ceremonial breathwork and movement, song and frequency-based healing, sacred witnessing, and partnership with horses, land and subtle realms, honoring healing as a co-creative, respectful process.

Jessica Dawe carries a strong lineage of oracle and ancestral work, offering shamanic journeys, soul retrieval, and channeled meditations and rituals that support deep soul remembrance and clarity. Through priestess tradition she weaves ceremonies for healing and peace for the soul.

Together, they weave complementary expressions of the same medicine—ceremony and journey, embodiment and oracle, land and lineage—creating a container that is both grounded and mythic, spacious and precise, ancient and alive.

About the Horses

The horses of this retreat are elders, survivors, and teachers.

They are rescue horses—ages 16 to 25—living on sacred land and held within a field of care, safety, and respect. Over the past two years, RiverStar has been in relationship with them through healing work and quiet presence, allowing trust to form slowly and organically.

The land and horses are stewarded by a devoted family and one beloved dog, held in care, respect, and love.

Gratitude & Grace in Grief- ONLINE (w/ recording available 3 days)

A Ceremony of Soft Light in the Hollow Places

Saturday, Nov 22, 4-5:15 pm (ish) EST

As autumn draws inward, the natural world slows, and we prepare for Thanksgiving and all that may mean and bring up, we gather to honor the quiet terrain where grief and gratitude meet—not as opposites, but as reflections within the same soma and field.

This ceremony is not about healing or closure.
It is an invitation to pause, to feel, and to breathe with what remains.

Together, through breath, Yin-inspired stillness,  a gentle ritual of release and remembrance, and an opportunity to speak into the shared space, we’ll explore how even the hollow places in us can hold a soft light.

  • We won’t ask the ache to disappear.

  • We won’t search for silver linings.

  • We’ll simply offer space—for the ache to echo, for memory to ripple, and for grace to sit beside it all.

Gratitude becomes not an answer—but a rhythm.
Grief becomes not a weight—but a waveform.

Join us as we remember what cannot be lost,
and let the quiet geometry of this season show us
how light continues to move through even the unseen places.

And how grief shows us our truth.

Exchange $33 (or $88 with the ceremony package)

Part II – The Alchemy of Grief
Grief is often avoided, yet it is one of the most direct portals to the heart. In this practice, we
gently open to what’s been held, not to fix or change, but to witness and allow. In stillness, the
subtle body speaks. Through somatic breath, yin shapes, and compassionate awareness, we
practice listening to grief as a guide. What releases is not just sorrow but the space beneath it,
where love resides.

Finding Sovereignty in Stillness Series: Part I – Letting Go to Remember

A 3-Part Yin Yoga & Meditation Series for Winter Preparation and Inner Coherence
Each session is 90 minutes and includes yin postures, guided meditation, conscious breathing,
and a closing savasana healing transmission.
No prior experience with yin or meditation is necessary, simply a willingness to soften into

Part I – Letting Go to Remember
As the light wanes in Fall, the season of letting go, nature invites stillness. Yet our modern lives
resist it. In this class, we explore how letting go isn't a loss, but a return. Through slow yin
postures and gentle breath, we create space in the body and mind to notice rather than react.
From this spaciousness, choice is reborn. Truth becomes accessible not as an idea, but as a lived sensation. In stillness, we remember who we are.

Winter is a time for deep reflection and revelation. Just like bears hibernating, we can turn toward a sleepy silence within and connect to soul and Spirit while preparing for renewal.

Go on a sacred, shamanic healing journey by connecting with the element of water, winter’s element, and honor the waters by deepening your understanding of water as a living being.  We will support and connect to the waters of the body through a yin practice after which we will do a shamanic movement meditation to connect, embody, and receive messages from the spirit of water.

The journey will end in deep rest as we seed and infuse the waters of the body with our dreams for the year to come.

Release and Remember: A Winter Solstice Journey with Emily Peterson & Allison Talis

The body holds our memories, our inherited epigenetic road map, and our present patterning. This workshop works with and through the body to release, untangle, and create new neural pathways towards integration.

We will begin with a guided, improvisational Soul Dance-Movement Practice, that engages somatic awareness to facilitate personal growth, emotional well-being, and collective healing. This welcoming, no eye-contact practice does not require any dance experience. Be prepared to move and sweat- knowing you are in full control of the intensity and pace for yourself.

Next, we will practice a yin sequence to slowly deepen into somatic contemplation of ancestral patterns. We will tap into our innate ancestral resilience and resources. Finally we’ll close with a guided meditation reflecting on our inner light and the hope that lies in the heart of the winter solstice.

Bring a yoga mat (mats are available to rent for $3 in studio), journal, water, and socks and a sweatshirt or even an extra set of clothes, as you might get sweaty.  There will be a five minute break in between the movement and the stillness portions to help facilitate warmth and comfort in the yin/mediation practices.

Cost: $55

Yin Certification Training and Flow Retreat in Mexico

This mixed track yoga retreat will be hosted by Emily Peterson & Cassandra Foster at Sun Beach- Acapulco, Mexico

If you are a 200 hr certified yoga teacher you can become certified by Emily Peterson in Yin Yoga and receive 28 Continue Education Credits to maintain your Yoga Alliance Certification.

If you prefer to relax and do some yoga, this retreat is a great way to deepen your practice and knowledge of both Vinyasa Flow & Yin Yoga. We will have a Vinyasa Practice in the mornings and Yin mid or late day. The perfect balance for a yoga retreat.

We will spend a week with those who will be enrolled in Mission Hill Yoga's 300 Hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training run by Cassandra Foster.

This yin yoga training will provide students with the tools and knowledge necessary to lead an effective yin class, while simultaneously deepening their own yoga practice. This training will verse students in the fundamental concepts of yin—what it is, and how and why we do it. Research has shown that the consistent practice of yin yoga can improve measures of anxiety, depression and resilience. In this training students will learn how to enhance the processes by which this type of healing can occur, during a yin practice, through both modifications to the practice environment and conscious teaching choices that stem from a framework of trauma-responsiveness and the undergirding neurobiology of stress. We will begin to create a container and be introduced to a moment-by-moment teaching style and practice which can impact the internal experience of students and enhance self-inquiry, bodily awareness and healing. Throughout the training you will gain new depths of personal insight and awareness through direct experience of the philosophy behind yin yoga as practiced to amplify emotional and somatic healing.

By the end of the training, students will have an understanding of:

  • Philosophy and practice of yin yoga

  • The benefits of the practice

  • The Meridians and Five Elements

  • Fascia and connective tissue and their importance

  • Overview of the four foundations of mindfulness and the intersection of yin, mindfulness, and the brain

  • Four YIN sequences with modifications and options

  • Sequencing and messaging (creation and delivery)

  • Key concepts such as Trauma, ACES, Resilience, and Space and presence

  • An introduction to the impact of trauma, on the brain and body. Specifically how trauma impacts the skills that yoga strives to improve—and why this should be a consideration in a yoga class.

  • An overview of Trauma-Informed frameworks as applied to both the practice space and teaching choices. And how to use this framework when building or modifying a container—the built environment for practice.

  • Understand and put into practice teaching choices that mitigate stress response, promote relational connection and maximize the students' potential to experience the healing of the YIN practice.

  • 28 hours Continuing Ed Credits for Yoga Alliance.

Yin and the Golden Gate of Pleasure: A New Year's Journey with Amanda Sibilia

One of the most powerful aspects in astrology is the nodal access - the moons nodes as they signify our psyche and emotional body and have a direct impact on our lives. In early 2022, they will switch signs for about eighteen months.

Durning our time together, Amanda will talk about the “golden gate of pleasure” that the North node in Taurus and the South node in Sagittarius have to offer us in 2022. Following the discussion, we will do a yin practice integrating somatically some of these themes and then we will close our time with a guided journey with the spirit of eagle.

This class will be recorded on zoom and will be available for three days, so if you can’t make it on NYE, you can practice and journey when it is right for you.

Cost is $33

Amanda is a professional astrologer who practices both Evolutionary as well as Shamanic Astrology. She is a champion and advocate for Love, Truth and Sovereignty. Her main goal for this channel is to help you remember the astrologer within and embody more of your sovereign light every day. Truth is we are all masters of light and can use astrology to help us accelerate our spiritual evolution while living our best lives.

In honor of this event, she will be offering a 45 minute reading for $111 to anyone who attends.

Radiating our Divine Light: A Solstice Celebration and Transfiguration Practice

Radiating our Divine Light: A Solstice Celebration and Transfiguration Practice

The winter solstice traditionally is a time to recognize the cycle of death and rebirth. It is a time to reflect on the dark and honor, call in, and celebrate the light. This solstice, gather together to honor the dark and become the light. Transfiguration is a practice of being in our true essence as spiritual beings and radiating our divine light. It is not an intellectual exercise, or something to do, but a shift in consciousness which shifts our vibration. When we shift our vibration, our inner and outer environment changes. As above, so below... as within, so without.

In this workshop, we will start off with some gentle movement and rest to open and soften. We will learn about transfiguration and have ceremony. Following the ceremony, we will practice transfiguring and then do a healing session. Lastly, we will close with sharing, intention setting and candle blessing to celebrate the light returning.

Tuesday Dec 21, 2021. 6-8pm

Cost $33

Solstice Yin: Celebrating the Light, Returning to Hope
Dec

Solstice Yin: Celebrating the Light, Returning to Hope

When we compress the dark, we compress the light. We we refuse to love and heal our shadow, we can lose touch with the ability to hope. During this solstice time, where the nights are the longest of the year, we can honor this cycle of the natural world while we take rest, turn inward, and to heal when the opportunity arises. Historically, it is also a time of great celebration and calling in the light. In this 90 minute gathering, we will practice a yin sequence that supports this process and also gives us an opportunity to feel where there is there is space and light, and thus hope. In doing this for ourselves, we are doing it for the collective. Following the sequence we will do a solstice ritual which includes intention setting and create candle sigils.

This event will be recorded and accessible FOR THREE DAYS. So if you can’t make it, you can practice as you like and if you attend live, you may want to practice again on December 21, during the time of the solstice.

I will offer THREE spaces to attend in person. After practice we will drink cacao and connect. If you are interested, please email me at emily@emilyhealing.com

When you register, you will be offered $30 off a shamanic reiki healing session with me to support you at this time. You can also give your session to someone else as a loving gift.

Energy exchange for class is $22 for virtual/ $30 in person. (If you are in person we can handle payment separately). If you are in desire of equity pricing, please reach out to me at email above.
